Who am I ? |
This is me on
Allagash, the full brother to the filly that this site is all
about.
So, who am I? Well, my name is Leah. I'm a graduated, yet employed student from UC Davis, California. I double majored in English and Managerial Economics. I grew up in San Anselmo, although I've been in Davis for the past 6 years. I started horseback riding at age 11 at San Domenico Stables and have ridden consistently since then. Mostly, I've done hunters, although I showed western on the IHSA team here at school as well. In the past year I've worked more intensely on dressage as I find it useful to balance and build muscle for Allagash.
Exciting, eh?
Yes, well, my life is surprising not ordinary, yet I'm still a college student, so certain variables such as classes, work, studying, and sleep are universal - or they were. Now that I'm graduated, I suspect bills, paychecks, working and sleep will be my constants.
Erm
yes, so. I ride horses, we've defined that.
So, what do I think I'm doing with a foal? Well, it goes like this. Since I've ridden Allagash for so long, it's reasonable to expect that his value increased. And indeed it has. So the first foal is my training fee. Plus, since it's a full sibling to Ally, it's like having another one of him. Really, quite reasonable, especially since I have contacts that have offered to put the foal to pasture for just the cost of feed. Whether or not I can keep the foal, or if I'll have to sell it ... only time will tell. I'm graduating soon and I have absolutely no idea where I'll be at. My career will be priority over a job that would keep me in a rural area (think, near horses). I figure I can make the sacrifice now in order to have the type of life I want later.
I sure sound idealistic, don't I? Ah ... the optimism of youth.
So, why did I decide to make this site?
Well, while reading up and researching for
the birth of this foal, I realized that I really could not find
any sources online that were the type of help I was looking for.
So I decided to create this site, for several reasons.
One, I liked the idea of a multimedia journal.
Two, I figured I could share it with people, especially a handful
of friends who want to see the baby, but don't live locally.
Three, I liked the idea of sharing my experiences with others
in order to help other people who are breeding foals for the first
time. It's a pretty overwhelming experience and I hoped to connect
with others out there who have had similar experiences or who
are interested in horse breeding.
So! that's it for now. That's me. Any questions or anything else exciting, send me an email (lkpeasley@ucdavis.edu).
Thanks!
