Ally's 3rd year of life was a BIG one for him.
He started off about as ungangly as he was as a yearling, although
still quite cute for it all.

In August of 1998, Ally was mounted for the
first time.
Being the extremely mellow creature that he is, it was not all
that big of a deal for him.

Now that he was officially "broke",
Ally was sent up to me in late August, 1998. He started off a
bit scrawny, but with consistent ground work, he started to fill
out by the start of October.
It was a big move for him. He went from being a pasture horse
to one that had to be confined in a 24 x 24 pipe pen most of the
day. To say the least, turn out time was a necessity. On top of
that, he had to learn how to do things like walk on cement, that
he had never done before. Plus, he still had to learn how to respond
to the ride. Steering was a big issue for awhile, but he was always
good about starting up and stopping.

One month before his 4th birthday, Ally became a parade horse, in the Annual UC Davis Picnic Parade. Amazingly, the parade wasn't all that big of a deal for him (even with a scary 30 foot spider float behind us). It was the waiting around before the parade started that got him all nervous.
